OU-Minot State -OKC Friday-Dallas Saturday

SOONERS PLAY MINOT STATE IN OKC AND DALLAS
NHL STARS/ACHA SOONERS DOUBLEHEADER IN DALLAS THIS SATURDAY

No. 7 OKLAHOMA SWEEPS No. 8 SUN DEVILS THIS PAST WEEK

THIS WEEK’S GAMES – The No. 7 University of Oklahoma® Hockey club (15-6-3) plays a pair of games this weekend against No. 16 Minot State (14-3-0). Friday night's game will be in Oklahoma City at the Blazers Ice Centre. Face-off is scheduled for 7:30 P.M. On Saturday, the Sooners are teaming up with the NHL Dallas Stars for an ACHA/NHL doubleheader. The Stars will host the Detroit Red Wings at 1:00 P.M. at the American Airlines Center in Dallas and approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the Stars/Red Wings (i.e., 4:00 P.M.), OU will take on Minot State in the second game of a weekend series between the two teams. One ticket gets you into both games. Tickets are available by using the form found at http://bit.ly/7D38xb, by calling 214-GO-STARS or online at www.DallasStars.com.

OU STUDENTS GET IN FREE ON FRIDAY – Who says you can’t get anything for free these days? If you have a valid OUID, you get in free to all OU Hockey home games this season. It sure feels like hockey weather outside these days in Oklahoma so take that as a sign from above and get to the rink! Flash that valid OUID at the door on Friday night and prepare to have more fun than you deserve with OU Hockey! And no, the OUID thing won't work for the game in Dallas so don't even try it, capeesh?

LAST OU HOCKEY GAMES – Oklahoma just completed a sweep of No. 8 Arizona State this past Sunday and Monday. Sunday night, the Sooners jumped on ASU quick, scoring sixteen seconds into the game and dominated the remainder of the game to win 4-1. Monday was a different story as ASU had a 3-1 lead after two periods. However, the Sooners tied the game in the opening minutes of the third period and eventually won the game in overtime by a score of 5-4.

RANKINGS – The Sooners are ranked 7th in the nation according to the most recent ACHA D1 Coaches ranking. The next ranking is expected to be released on Friday, January 22nd.

NEW FACES IN THE LINEUP – The Sooners have added three players to the roster for remainder of the season: forwards Jesse Bryant (Anchorage, AK), Sean Castle (Midwest City, OK) and Billy Strain (Providence, RI). Bryant played for the Sooners last year but did not play during the Fall 09 semester in order to focus on academics. Castle played two seasons of hockey for OU before taking two years off as his academic schedule could not accommodate the additional burdens that hockey imposes until now. Strain recently transferred to OU after playing two and a half seasons at NCAA D3 Nichols College in Dudley, Mass.

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS – The Minot State program is in transition as Head Coach Sheldon Schneider is working to get his program back into the Nationals picture. After a few years of being unranked, the Beavers are now ranked 16th and on the cusp of qualifying for Nationals for the first time in several years. Minot State is led in scoring by Isaac Friesen who has 22 goals and 18 assists for 40 total points this season. Friesen is followed in scoring by Scott Arnold (13-22-35), Kent Lillejord (9-19-2Cool and Luke Strueby (10-16-26). Steve Norris (2.88 GAA, 0.79 sv%) has been the main goaltender for the Beavers this season.

ACHA D1 SCOREBOARD – Positivity 101, Chapter Nine - Nothing is really over until the moment you stop trying. Deep, huh? It's also true. Give that some thought while checking out the ACHA D1 results from this past week:
