My top team is the Stars. Originally for proximity purposes and them being our default 'home team', but I've become quite a fan...and I don't think this slump is permanent. Modano's actually been scoring goals this season; Ott's the biggest nuisance (thus greatest asset) in the league, just short of being a bastard like Avery; when Turco's having an "on" day, he's a killer. But I think that Swine Flu he had earlier in the year gave him brain damage. But he goes free agent after this season, and the writing's pretty much on the wall that his days in Dallas are numbered. They should keep Auld around though. He's saved our asses in games in which Turco would have choked.
My second spot is the Caps. Ovie, Semin, Backstrom, Laich, Green...For the most part, they're a well-oiled machine of outstanding talent. And if they weren't, I still feel justified in supporting them being that they're the home team of the nation's capital. I hope they can keep this monster momentum going throughout the playoffs. 13 wins in a row at this point, with Ovie on top for goals, points and plus/minus. It's a good time for the Caps and their fans.
Up next, I feel compelled to latch onto an Original Six, and I like supporting the underdog until he triumphs. So, you guessed it, I follow the Leafs. I haven't followed them much this season, though, because it's hard to follow something that isn't moving. And speaking of which...
...I have family outside of Edmonton, so I've tried to be an Oilers fan. I really have. But every time I watch them play, I get bored so senseless that I can't stand it. They are neither good nor interesting. I'll support them if they're our parent team, for sure, but they won't take any of my top three spots. Especially if they stay in the bottom three of the league standings.

I missed the game, but they do indeed seem to have gotten a shot in the arm with this recent trade. Maybe by season's end, I can wear my Leafs jersey in public without blushing. hahaha

Kelster and Ellis never tire of using this jersey picture, lol. I saw the Caps and the Penguins play in DC a couple of years ago and had a blast. The Caps are my second favorite team. Ovechkin is something to behold.

Like many others on this forum, I like the Boston Bruins. I watched them on NBC when I was a kid in Ohio. The Dayton Gems were a secondary affiliate of the Bruins, below OKC on the ladder. Bobby Orr was my idol, a fast skating defenseman with a blistering shot who played defense like Shiva with 4 sticks. I have been to Boston a few times and have exterior photos of the old Garden, the BankNorth Garden and Matthews Arena (their original home starting in 1926). I thought the Bruins would win more Stanley Cups than 1970 and '72, but the WHA and Orr's bad knees got in the way.

I became an Oilers fan by accident, I guess. In the early 1980's, my family moved to Nova Scotia, Canada for several years for some contract work my dad was doing. Being the only American in my school, it was kind of rough getting acclimated to the new environment -- all anyone talked about was hockey, hockey, hockey. So naturally that's what I talked about too.
During that time, the Oilers started a farm team in Halifax. So that's what everyone talked about -- especially after the first Cup win for the NHL club. So this team -- the Nova Scotia Oilers -- is ultimately now the one moving here to Oklahoma City. In a way, it's a really cool full-circle piece of my childhood returning to me.
I've been a true blue (& copper) Oilers fan since before I was even 10. Last month I found my old Oilers ski hat in some of my old childhood stuff that my parents had kept. I must have been 8-9 years old when I first wore it. I gave it to my five-year-old son, who treasures it (and loves sports).
Well, that's enough drippy sentimental garbage for one day... lol. _________________ Few things are certain in this world: death, taxes, and a first-round exit for the Calgary Flames.
