I don't particularly like the name Oil Barons or Barons, but I was thinking it would would be cool if we could keep the B logo...it's alot better than half the logos in the AHL.

But name alone, I'd have to vote for NONE OF THE ABOVE. None of them just sit right. I'm gonna have to do some thinking on this one to come up with an idea. Not that the powers that be are gonna listen to us anyways.

Even if she didn't mean it as one you certainly deserve one Merchy. I want us to find a way to keep it. I still vote for Blazers. Smile

Does anyone have any idea how the vote total stands right now? Typical GOP rhetoric---they want to balance the federal budget and yet we have a 'Name the Team Poll' in chaos and anarchy with the results shroudded in controversy. Fuck---I'm going to go ahead and vote twice then---Put me down for Wildcatters and Ice Kittens.

I got a great new fresh idea. We can call the team:

The Oklahoma City Domers and have domes on the jerseys. How about that? Laughing

Here's the count as I see it, with my vote for the Wildcatters.

Dipsticks 1
Wildcatters 5
Oil Barons 1
Oil Kings 1
Blazers 1
Ice Kittens 1

The Wildcatters/Ice Kittens relationship would work. This is entertainment. If you're going to do show business, then do show business. You can't cancel every Sunday activity to watch the Super Bowl and knock AAA hockey and ice girl show business at the same time. The Aeros have ice girls; professional dance togs prevent costume malfunctions, so it is possible to have hockey and ice girl entertainment value without mid-west puritan ideology figuring into the business model. Besides... I'm a selfish leg man Very Happy

As does San Antonio. They are called the "Ice Girls" How original.

This article from Edmonton mentions that they will have a name the team contest which will be hosted by Prodigal Hockey. So we will see.

Angus, thank you for helping Avs administer this 'Name the Team Poll'. I think all of us could see where this was headed if you hadn't intervened. We agree on the Wildcatter/Ice Kitten concept, but I still have my doubts as to whether the powers that be out there at the Express Extasy Ranch will be able to take that hard, long swallow and go the Ice Girl route like so many others have in modern sports management. This will be a difficult transition for them to come to grips with... in that nobody really cares about Livestock Night and Teddy Bear Tosses or the such. Hopefully, OKC hockey will truly evolve and fans in this market will no longer be denied their unalienable right to have some Ice Girls at their hockey games leading the cheers. However, I'm hopeful the outfits will feature much less clothing than the girls are wearing in the picture you have provided. Thanks, Doc

There is also a chance that Doug Sauter, who was head coach of the Oklahoma City Blazers of the Central Hockey League from 1995 until they folded on July 1, 2009, will return to hockey in that city in a management capacity with the AHL squad. A source said Sauter will not become part of the new team's coaching staff, but he has a longstanding business relationship with Bob Funk Sr. and is well respected by Oilers officials.

Well we saw that coming.

Thanks for the article Steveo28 and welcome to the Board!

"Prodigal Hockey will make its money through the sale of tickets, advertising and sponsorships in the Convention Center. It's a facility that normally seats 13,300 for hockey but there are plans to curtain off about 6,000 of those seats."

Having a conceptual issue of the big black curtains at the Myriad. Don't see it as necessary.

I absolutely meant it as a compliment. I really should have said the B logo is better than MOST of the logos in the AHL. Wink

Ok, I'm changing my vote. My hubby-to-be had an idea, and I don't recall it being mentioned here. (Although it may have been, I'm too lazy to look.)

How about OKC Roughnecks? It's tough, it's oil related, but it keeps the Oil out of it.
