what he said! |
They are not the Blazers... Why call them that? Why not be happy with a new team, new name, new everything. What is wrong with moving on to bigger and better things? We no longer have a BLAZER team........... |
Why not call them that?
I do not believe I said that keeping the name would keep us from moving on to bigger and better.
In fact, who says naming them the Oilers or anything else would make them bigger and better.
They could suck bad and be named anything.
No, we no longer have a CHL Blazer team. We could have an AHL Blazer team. As IIF stated, the Blazer mascot history is long in OK so why does it HAVE to change?
I just would not mind being able to wear my same jerseys instead of buying new ones. So for me it is a history and a $$ thing.
So my question for you is why does it have to change? What is so wrong with the Blazers as a mascot? Did Clyde do something to you? Do you have a problem with the colors? Do you not believe in the history associated with the name? Why are you against it being the Blazers? | The Blazers name in Oklahoma City is damaged goods. Maybe not here on this board but to all those filling the Ford Center for the NBA and other events and to those heavy hitters with the corporate $$$ to spend (Devon, Cheaspeake, SandRidge). Call them the Oilers, the Oil Cats, the Roughnecks, the Pink Daisies, who cares, just call them our AHL team.

Why does it have to change? Why not...maybe hockey in OKC needs a change. The Blazer Mascot was always very nice to our family, but I am sure another Mascot would treat the fans the same way. Nothing wrong with the colors as far as I am concerned. But if I were an AHL team coming in here no offense to the the CHL I would want my own identity....If I came in with a new team that is not the Blazers I would not want to be called the Blazers. Sometime change is a good thing... I agree if we kept the name the same people could still wear the old Blazer logo. I am not talking bad about the old team and I respect your opinion. I am speaking for myself. I would like to think that maybe a whole new change would be a good thing. Just personal opinion. _________________ Things are looking up!!!!

This is why it has to change. It's a marketing thing. Besides new league.....new team........new name!
Now then, that said, the new name needs to be loosly associated with the parent team, but in this case (because of the "Tulsa Oilers") cannot use any derivative of the "Oilers" name, however it still needs to be petrolium based. And since it will be mainly comprised of players under contract with the "Edmonton Oilers", I believe the only fitting solution would be to call them the "Oklahoma City Dipsticks"

Let me ask you Blazers-obsessed Tulsa Oilers fans something.....
Let's say the Tulsa Oilers - a name recognized since 1928 - moved up to the the AHL. Would the CHL association be considered damaged goods? At the end of the day, can the casual evening entertainment customer differentiate the CHL from the AHL?
With Tulsa's storied hockey tradition, would you be cool with changing the name to something completely ridiculous like the Tulsa Ice Okies....or even something as absurd as the Tulsa Talons?
Wonder what the IHL to ECHL to AHL Peoria Rivermen think about all this?

This is the first post on here in forever that truely made me laugh. Good stuff.
The name? I don't care. Whatever.

Yes!! In my opinion, using the "Oilers" name would be a mistake.
Most of us on these boards understand the tradition of a name. But most of us on these boards are going to buy tickets either way. The trick here is to entice people that might not go otherwise to give this a try. Remember when the BOK opened last year? Not a new team, but in that case a new building. For those who couldn't afford $175 "Eagles" tickets, this was the first chance to check out the new building. Almost 17,000 people showed up that first game. Now hopefully we learned a lesson that night, and if we ever get a chance like that again, we actually give them a reason to come back.
As far as the idea that the CHL has made the Oilers damaged goods, I believe it has. Most of the sportscasters around here appear to be holding their nose whenever (if) they announce "Oiler" scores. And if polled, I believe the majority of them believe the "C" in "CHL" stands for "Circus" rather then "Central". We have one guy, Rick Couri that is actually saying "beer league"........beer league" over and over, whenever you listen to his reports backwards.
So yes, should Tulsa ever make the jump to the AHL, I would strongly support not only educating the general public on how close these guys are to the "NHL", but a new identity as well.
Now, in Tulsa's case what that name would be, would depend on who the parent team is. For example, if it were the "Panthers" or the "Coyotes" we could be the "Cougars" or "Bobcats". I've spotted a few of those around here. If it were the "Hurricane" then obviously we would be the "Tornado" or "Twisters". And of course if it were the "Avalanche", then with our wind, we could be the "Blizzard" or "Storm". Just think, someday we could be talking about that big "Blizzard // Dip Stick" rivalry. _________________ AHL - It ain't Nascar, but at least the beer's cold

Toni, I've seen these Funks at work before. I'm not in anyway gonna get my hopes up for them to bring Ice Girls to OKC despite all the lurid tales of the goings and coming at the Extasy Horse Ranch. You guys are cool and I hope it ends up good for you guys with this new hockey deal. I jist responded to quite possibly the dumbest neocon in the New Confederacy over on newsok.com on the Sarah Palin Joins Fox story and had a post removed and was warned to post only on the sports web. Swear to God....LMAO. Sigh. I never should have written anything about Sarah Palin's clitoris in the Daily Oklahoman and i knew it as the words were flowing off my keyboard.
Anyway---in my mind, we've always had Ice Girls...jist not where the games were being played and I worked around that inconvenience during the hockey season, but I'm still gonna spit on Lund jist for general principle.
On a brighter note... I went with my wife last week-end and we went through the annual ritual of seeing a chick flick together. Sigh. However, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed 'It's Complicated'. I laughed my ass off. Then last night--I finally got around to seeing 'The Hangover' on DVD and I'm still fucking laughing. THEY FUCKING KIDNAPPED MIKE TYSON'S TIGER!
Anyway keep putting up provocative Tiger Woods pics ever so often to keep me interested.
Thanks, Doc _________________ Clarise...can you hear the Sunshine Bloggers?
